Best of Germany plus Oberammergau 2010

Day 1 - Depart USA
Overnight flight to Frankfurt.

Day 2 - Arrive Frankfurt (Offenbach)
Welcome to Germany! Late this afternoon, we enjoy an orientation tour of Frankfurt including medieval Römerplatz. Later we enjoy a Welcome Drink with our Tour Director.

Day 3 - Frankfurt (Offenbach) – Rhine Cruise – Cologne
This morning we take a relaxing Rhine Cruise from St. Goar to Boppard, as we rejoin our coach we drive past Bonn, Beethoven’s birthplace. Then we continue to Cologne to see its gothic cathedral, before reaching our hotel. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 4 - Cologne – Hamburg
Today we drive into Lower Saxony en route to Hamburg, with the chance to take a harbour cruise. Later, an orientation tour includes the inner Alster Lake. We dine in our hotel tonight. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 5 - Hamburg – Berlin (2 nights)
This morning we follow the Elbe valley and cross the former ‘Iron Curtain’ to the historic city of Berlin. (Buffet breakfast)

Day 6 - Berlin sightseeing and at leisure
Our sightseeing tour features highlights of both East and West including the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden Boulevard, the German State Opera House and the Reichstag Building. Later, time at leisure. (Buffet breakfast)

Day 7 - Berlin – Dresden
Today we drive to Dresden – known as ‘Florence on the Elbe’. On arrival our orientation includes the Opera House and Zwinger Palace. Later, why not take an optional tour to The Treasury and Schloss Moritzburg? (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 8 - Dresden – Modlareuth – Bayreuth – Nuremberg
First to Modlareuth to visit the open-air museum. From here we continue to Bayreuth to see the Wagner Festival Theater, and on to Nuremberg with orientation on arrival, which will show us the mighty ramparts, bustling market place and St. Sebald’s Cathedral. Tonight we enjoy a Highlight Dinner in a local restaurant. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 9 - Nuremberg – Rothenburg – Munich – Oberammergau (2 nights)
After our orientation of Munich we continue to the beautiful region of Oberammergau, where we enjoy dinner in our hotel. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 10 - Passion Play performance
After breakfast, there is time at leisure followed by lunch at a local restaurant. The Passion Play begins at 2.30pm and runs until 5pm when there is a dinner break. The play resumes at 8pm and finishes at 10.30pm when you are transferred back to your hotel accommodation. (Buffet breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

Day 11 - Oberammergau – Black Forest
After breakfast we rejoin our Trafalgar coach and fellow travelers and continue with the regular tour itinerary. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 12 - Donauschingen – Heidelberg – Frankfurt
First to elegant Baden-Baden and on to the ‘Student Prince’ city of Heidelberg with its dominant castle and courtyards. Tonight we enjoy a Farewell Dinner together in Frankfurt. (Buffet breakfast / Farewell dinner)

Day 13 - Frankfurt (Offenbach) – USA
This morning there is time to bid farewell to our Tour Director and traveling companions as our vacation comes to an end. Airport transfers are available, conditions apply. (Buffet breakfast)

The quaint European village of Oberammergau is world famous for the spectacular Passion Play performed by its residents just once every decade. Keeping a pledge made nearly 400 years ago, this reenactment of the crucifixion of Christ preserves the health and well-being of its residents to this day.
